Impact of Tropospheric Scintillation on Direct-sequence Spread-spectrum Satellite Communication Networks

چکیده

Tropospheric scintillation can seriously aaect satellite links operating at Ka-band. The average bit error probability for a multiuser binary direct-sequence spread-spectrum satellite communication network operating under amplitude scintillation is evaluated. Numerical results are presented to illustrate performance comparisons of systems operating under typical scintillation statistics. As in the single user case, it is shown that the average system performance gradually degrades as the scintillation intensity increases and is worse for a high variability of these events. Results also indicate that the impact of amplitude tropospheric scin-tillations becomes less important as the number of asyn-chronous active users increases.

Accuracy Improvement of Tropospheric Delay Interpolation in RTK Networks

The effect of troposphere on the signals emitted from global navigation satellite system (GNSS) satellites, appears as an extra delay in the measurement of the signal traveling from the satellite to receiver. This delay depends on the temperature, pressure, humidity as well as the transmitter and receiver antennas location. In GNSS positioning, tropospheric delay effects on accuracy of differen...

Design of a High Range, High Efficiency Spread Spectrum Transmitter for Audio Communication Applications

This work proposes a direct sequence spread spectrum transmitter with high transmission range and efficiency for audio signals. It is shown that by choosing high process gain for spread spectrum signal the data could reach a range of 55km in the 2.4GHz ISM band. By employing a light modulation scheme, we have a relaxed SNR requirement for having a low bit error rate (BER) which translates to re...

Comparison of tropospheric scintillation prediction models of the Indonesian climate

Tropospheric scintillation is a phenomenon that will cause signal degradation in satellite communication with low fade margin. Few studies of scintillation have been conducted in tropical regions. To analyze tropospheric scintillation, we obtain data from a satellite link installed at Bandung, Indonesia, at an elevation angle of 64.7° and a frequency of 12.247 GHz from 1999 to 2000. The data ar...

Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum in a Shadowed Rician Fading Land-Mobile Satellite Channel

The performance of a direct sequence spread-spectrum land-mobile satellite transmission system, using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation, is analyzed. The satellite channel is modeled as having shadowed Rician fading characteristics. The bit error probability is evaluated, considering both the envelope and the phase variation. Assuming a Gaussian approximation for the interference, num...

Tropospheric scintillation prediction models for a high elevation angle based on measured data from a tropical region

The recent rapid evolution of new satellite services, including VSAT for internet access, LAN interconnection and multimedia applications, has triggered an increasing demand for bandwidth usage by satellite communications. However, these systems are susceptible to propagation effects that become significant as the frequency increases. Scintillation is the rapid signal fluctuation of the amplitu...
